The shocking statistics of women and children that are turned away at shelters is alarming and serves as a wake up call to us all. Times have changed!
Women are living in cars by day and walking the streets at night in desperate need of food, clothing and monetary support for themselves and their children. Some of these women are victims of spousal, mental and physical abuse. The shelters do not have room for them and some shelters either charge a fee or do not accept children.
Where do they go? Who can they turn to? What’s next for these frightened and broken women? Life fools us with the aroma of fine dining and the over crowded movie theaters or maybe a day of spending at the mall. Most people experience spectacular weekends, peacefully tuck their children in at night and in the midst of our busy lives, we forget that there are others who did not have a good day. There is someone out there that is hungry tonight. There is someone out there that is in need of a helping hand.
There are women and children that thirst for a brighter tomorrow. It is estimated, between 70% and 90% of homeless families in America are headed by women. Sadly, the population of homeless families has increased by 35% since 1989.
DIVA's of Distinction believes that if we all work together no woman will be left behind. Please give.
